5 Things I’ve Learned Working in IT That Helped Me Understand People Better

I am a unicorn in the IT world.

I like dealing with people and helping them solve their problems.

They come to me when something in their computer has gone wrong and they can’t do their job.

You can see the desperation in their eyes and hear it in their voices when they can’t do their job and think they are going to get fired.

They always think they did something wrong.

And 9 times out of 10 they didn’t.

Why am I telling you this?

Because you can better understand people by just listening to them.

Here are 5 things I’ve learned to understand people better:

  1. People are most appreciative when desperate or scared

The look of panic in people’s eyes when they’ve been working on a big report or sending an important email and then POOF it disappears or is lost is from a horror movie.

They contact you and sound as if their life is on the line and would give up their first born child to resolve their issue.

Once you get everything back to normal and the look of death has dissipated they can’t thank you enough.
